Just another regular day at CLRI

Perhaps I haven’t mentioned it yet, but CLRI is located in one of the most dense forests in or around Chennai. It’s part of the Guindy National Park – IIT-M – Anna Univ ecosystem. It is basically a primordial forest broken only by the occasional building or road. And when buildings are built in a forest, animals tend to occupy them sometimes.
Last week, when I stayed late at the environmental lab, I saw a fully-grown deer and a doe! They were quite magnificent. I also saw very very large monkeys. Today, I was introduced to another inhabitant of the forest – the snake. I don’t know what kind of snake but it had entered the Chemical Engineering Department building!
