Poem: Lost on a Straight Road

Lost in a flurry of anonymous faces
Of which all are familiar
Of which I know none
A lone soul in a sea of souls,
I am a ghost, plain air
I elicit no gaze, greet.

Against the multitude of noise
A distant orchestra plays,
A song with no rhythm, no count
Slow, unyielding and melancholy –
A symphony of noises
That mirror my breath, thought.

Skin that has forgotten
Feeling is all lost
Touch is a mystery
Ever so magical and baffling
Longing to feel again
Long forgotten sensations.

No choices left to be made
No forks in the road below,
Too late to turn back now,
Too proud to fall defeated,
Too tired to march forward,
Lost on a straight road.
